Get Fit for Life...

Tulsa Run 2008 Celebrity Runners

Mayor Kathy Taylor and Bank of Oklahoma Senior Executive Vice President Steve Bradshaw have been named the official celebrity runners for the Tulsa Run! The biggest running event of the year is scheduled for October 25, 2008 and will raise $25,000 for Family & Children's Services.

The Mayor and Steve Bradshaw will be working with Gini McFarland, Celebrity Runner trainer from Hillcrest. They will train on a one-on-one basis to ensure they're staying healthy and are on track with their individual running programs.

Students from McLain High School for Science and Technology and Gilcrease Middle School will be following Mayor Taylor's lead and begin training for the Tulsa Run. The new "Mayor's Youth Can Do It" running program is a partnership between the Office of the Mayor, Runner's World and the Tulsa Run.

Fox23's Move It Program!

FOX23, a new MFC Partner, is one of Tulsa's media outlets that is taking the lead in health and fitness and encouraging Tulsans to Move it for a healthy you! Their new Move it! program, which recently kicked off with a focus on family, is committed to increasing awareness of obesity and unhealthy lifestyles in Green Country and providing solutions to this growing problem.

Through the Move it! program, FOX 23 is providing a local family with the resources to get fit, including a personal trainer and nutritionist. The family's progress will be featured on monthly broadcasts throughout the year. FOX23 selected the Power family to take on the challenge of getting fit in 2008.

According to Amber Musselman, FOX 23 marketing manager, the Power family from Tulsa is empowering themselves by making the commitment to a healthier lifestyle," said Ms. Musselman.

Mayor Kathy Taylor, a 2008 Move it! board member, said, "Good luck to the Power family -- we will be watching you for inspiration in our own families. A special thanks goes to FOX23 for heading up the Move it! program and making a difference in the health and fitness of our community."
